Rajasthan beats Punjab by 50 runs; Nehal Wadhera 62(41), Jofra Archer 3/25
BJP leader and former Barrackpore MP Arjun Singh has refused to comply with a notice from Jagaddal Police Station asking him to submit his licensed revolver by Saturday afternoon. Singh stated, “I won’t go to the police station,” and alleged, “The Trinamool is trying to get me killed using the police. I’ll only deposit my revolver if ordered by the court.”
The notice follows a March 26 incident in Jagaddal’s Meghna More area, where a clash broke out among local labourers. Arjun Singh arrived at the location with a group after receiving information about the disturbance. Singh alleged that miscreants fired at them and fled. He and his group reportedly chased the attackers, during which a youth sustained injuries while trying to escape. The injured person was taken to the hospital, and police began an investigation into the events.
As part of the probe, Barrackpore Police summoned Arjun Singh twice for questioning, but he did not appear. Later, police officers went to Bhatpara’s ‘Majdoor Bhavan’ and questioned him there. Following this, Singh left the state citing personal reasons. A case related to the incident was presented before the Barrackpore court, where a judge issued an arrest warrant against Singh.
Singh subsequently approached the Calcutta High Court and was granted interim protection until Wednesday. Despite this legal shield, police issued another notice instructing him to appear at Jagaddal Police Station with his licensed firearm. Singh has rejected the police directive and maintains he will only follow a court order regarding the revolver.
In response to the situation, former BJP state president Dilip Ghosh issued a warning to the state government. He alleged that there was an attempt to harm Arjun Singh and stated that if anything happened to Singh, the BJP would not remain silent.
